Who Then Is This?
“They became very much afraid and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?’
Mark 4:41
The storm had already shown the disciples their weakness. Now the calm showed them Jesus’ glory.
They were no longer just afraid of the waves. They were struck by the One standing in the boat.
With a word, Jesus silenced the wind and shut down the sea. Creation heard His voice and obeyed. That is not the power of a teacher, a prophet, or a mere man. That is the authority of God.
Their question drives this passage to its center: “Who then is this?” It is the right question.
If Jesus commands the sea, then He is more than a helper in hard moments.
He is Lord over creation. He is God with us, faithful to God’s Word, full of power, and worthy of our trust.
This matters for you today. The peace of this story is not found in positive thinking. It is found in the person of Christ.
Your hope stands or falls on who Jesus is.
If He is truly Lord, then no storm gets the final word. No wave outranks Him. No crisis pushes Him from His throne.
So do not stop at asking Jesus to calm your storm. Ask Him to deepen your view of Him.
Do you see Him as useful, or do you worship Him as Lord?
Gospel hope grows when you remember that the One who saves you also rules all things.
Today, take one clear step: read Mark 4:35–41 again, and linger over the question, “Who then is this?”
Let that question lead you to worship, trust, and obedience.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see You clearly. Strengthen my faith in Your power, and anchor my heart in biblical truth. Help me trust You as Lord over every storm. Amen.
