Faith In The Middle Of Fear
“And He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid?
How is it that you have no faith?’”
Mark 4:40
Fear speaks fast. It fills the mind, clouds judgment, and makes the storm feel bigger than God’s presence.
That is where the disciples were. The wind was violent, the water was rising, and their hearts gave way.
After Jesus calmed the sea, He turned and exposed the deeper issue.
The storm around them was real, but the greater problem was the fear within them.
Jesus asked, “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”
He was not mocking their weakness. He was calling them to trust Him.
They had already seen His power. They had already heard His teaching. They were not alone in the boat.
The Lord Himself was with them, yet fear still ruled their hearts.
That contrast still meets us in our own trials.
Fear fixes our eyes on what might happen. Faith fixes our eyes on who Christ is.
Fear says the situation is too much. Faith says Jesus is Lord over all of it.
Fear listens to the waves. Faith holds to the Word of God.
This is why biblical faith matters so much. Faith does not deny pain, danger, or loss. Faith remembers that none of those things outrank Jesus.
In the middle of trial, we do not need to pretend we are strong. We need to trust the One who is.
As we walk through hardship, rooted in Scripture and faithful to God’s Word, we find steady gospel hope.
Today, bring your fear to Christ. Name it honestly. Then place it under His authority.
Ask Him to strengthen your faith, quiet your heart, and help you walk in trust, not panic.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, when fear rises in me, teach me to trust You. Strengthen my faith in the middle of trial, and help me rest in Your power and care. Keep my eyes fixed on You. Amen.
