When Fear Questions His Care

“Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’”
Mark 4:38

The disciples asked an honest question, but it was shaped by fear. The storm was fierce. The boat was filling. Death felt close. In that moment, panic rewrote what they believed about Jesus.

“Do You not care?”

That question still rises in our hearts.

We may not say it out loud, but we feel it when prayers seem delayed, when pain lingers, or when life turns hard without warning.

Fear does that. It takes hard circumstances and turns them into false conclusions about Christ.

But the storm did not mean Jesus had stopped caring.

His silence was not neglect. His rest was not indifference.

He was still with them, still Lord, and still fully aware. The disciples measured His care by what they felt in the moment.

That is where fear often leads us, too.

Scripture teaches us to look deeper. Jesus’ care is not proven by an easy path, but by His faithful presence.

He was in the boat with them. He had not left them to face the waves alone.

That same gospel hope steadies us today. When our hearts shake, Christ remains faithful to God’s Word, full of mercy, and near to His people.

So when fear tells you that Jesus does not care, answer that lie with truth.

He cares enough to stay. He cares enough to lead. He cares enough to save.

The cross has already settled that forever.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, when fear clouds my thinking, help me trust Your heart. Keep me from believing lies about Your care. Root me in Scripture, and remind me that You are near, faithful, and full of mercy. Amen.
