Calm In The Chaos

“Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’ And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Hush, be still.’ And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
Mark 4:38–39

The storm was real. The waves were crashing in. The boat was filling up. The disciples were panicking.

And Jesus was asleep.

That detail matters.

Jesus was not asleep because He was unaware. He was asleep because He was unshaken.

The storm that terrified the disciples did not threaten Him for a second. He rested in full authority over the wind, the sea, and the outcome.

Nothing was spinning out of control, because He was still in control.

We often measure danger by how loud life gets. Jesus does not.

He is never rushed, never alarmed, and never powerless.

What feels overwhelming to us is never overwhelming to Him.

His calm is not indifference. It is the steady confidence of the Son of God, rooted in perfect authority.

That is good news for us. When life feels unstable, Jesus is not scrambling for a solution. He is Lord over every wave.

He does not need to panic to prove He cares. He simply speaks, and creation obeys.

So when fear rises, remember who is in the boat. Fix your eyes on Christ, not the storm.

His presence is greater than your pressure, and His word is stronger than your fear.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, when my heart is anxious, help me trust Your authority. Remind me that You are not shaken by what shakes me. Teach me to rest in Your power and peace. Amen.
