Peace In The Storm

"On that day, when evening came, He said to them, 'Let us go over to the other side.' Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him. And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, 'Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?' And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, 'Hush, be still.' And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.”
Mark 4:35-41

Life has a way of throwing storms at us when we least expect them. One moment everything is calm, the next we're fighting just to stay afloat.

The disciples had front-row seats to Jesus' power all day. They watched Him teach, heal, and perform miracles.

Yet when the storm hit, panic took over. They forgot who was in their boat.

Notice Jesus was sleeping.

Not because He didn't care, but because He was fully human and completely exhausted from ministry.

When they woke Him with their accusation, He didn't give them a lecture on faith. He simply stood up and spoke two words to the storm: "Hush, be still." Immediate calm.

When your next storm hits, and it will, remember who's in your boat.

Before you panic, before you assume God doesn't care, speak His name into the chaos.

Jesus is still in the business of calming storms.

Prayer:

Lord, when the storms of life rage around me, help me remember that You are not sleeping through my crisis. You are present, powerful, and in complete control. Give me faith to trust You when the waves are high and the wind is fierce. In Jesus' name, Amen.
