When The Curtain Pulls Back

"And He was transfigured before them; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.”
Mark 9:2b-3

For most of His ministry, Jesus looked like an ordinary man.

A carpenter. A wandering teacher. Nothing about His appearance announced that He was God.

Then came the mountaintop.

The Transfiguration was not Jesus receiving glory He did not have. It was Jesus revealing glory He had always carried.

In John 17:5, He speaks of the glory He shared with the Father before the world was created. On that mountain, just for a moment, the veil of His humanity was pulled back.

What the disciples saw was a glimpse of who Jesus has always been: radiant, holy, and glorious.

One day, every eye will see it. Revelation 6:16 tells us that people will beg the mountains to fall on them when they see His second coming.

What was a comfort to the disciples then will be a terror to those who rejected Him.

Up to this point in Mark's Gospel, you believed Jesus was God because of what He did.

Now you believe it because of who He is.

His actions confirmed it. His appearance revealed it.

Spend five minutes today meditating on the holiness of Jesus. Not just what He does for you, but who He is.

Let that shape how you approach Him in prayer.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I confess I often come to You focused on my needs rather than Your greatness. You are radiant, holy, and glorious. Help me to see You rightly today. In Your name, Amen.
