When Family Doesn't Understand
"When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, 'He has lost His senses.’"
Mark 3:21
Sometimes the hardest criticism comes from those closest to us. Jesus faced opposition not from strangers, but from His own family who thought He had lost His mind.
Jesus' brothers didn't believe in Him until after the resurrection. They saw His miracles, heard His teachings, yet concluded He was crazy.
This wasn't gentle concern but forceful intervention. The word "take custody" suggests they wanted to seize Him aggressively.
When you follow Christ wholeheartedly, don't be surprised if family members question your decisions.
They might think you're too devoted, too generous with your time and money, or too serious about faith.
Remember that even Jesus experienced this rejection from those who knew Him best.
If family members are criticizing your faith journey, pray for them instead of arguing.
Let your consistent love and character speak louder than your words.
Prayer:
Lord, when my family doesn't understand my devotion to You, help me respond with grace and patience. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to simply live out my faith before them. Strengthen my resolve to follow You regardless of opposition. Amen.
