What Is Really In There?
"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness."
Mark 7:21–22
The list Jesus gives is uncomfortable. It is supposed to be.
When He describes what comes out of the human heart, He is describing all of us.
Jesus does not say these things proceed from bad people or broken homes. He says they proceed from the heart of men.
Every person.
The Bible confirms it: "There is none righteous, not even one" (Romans 3:10).
This is not pessimism. It is honesty. And honest diagnosis is the first step toward real healing.
You cannot clean what you refuse to acknowledge is dirty.
The disciples were confused when Jesus said this.
Even the people closest to Him struggled to accept that the problem was internal, not external.
If His own disciples needed that truth spoken plainly, so do we.
Read through Jesus' list in Mark 7:21–22 slowly.
Do not rush past it.
Ask the Spirit to show you which ones are active in your life right now, even in subtle forms.
Prayer:
Lord, Your Word is a mirror. I do not always like what I see, but I trust that You show me the truth because You love me. Help me receive Your conviction without shame and without excuse. Make my heart clean. In Jesus' name, Amen.
