Lips And Heart

"This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me.”
Mark 7:6   

You can show up every Sunday, sing every word, and drop something in the offering plate, and still be a million miles from God.  

That is a hard truth, but Jesus said it plainly. 

The Pharisees were religious professionals. They knew the law, observed the rituals, and kept their hands spotless.  

But Jesus quoted Isaiah right at them: their worship was vain.  

Not weak, not flawed; vain.  

Empty. Rejected.  

God is not impressed with religious performance when the heart is disengaged.  

He wants you, not your routine. 

Real worship is not what your hands do or what your lips say. It is what your heart is surrendered to.  

Jesus is not asking for a better performance. He is asking for an honest heart. 

You can sit through an entire meal with someone and never really be present.  

Physically there, mentally somewhere else.  

That is exactly what the Pharisees were doing with God. Present in body, absent in heart.  

God is not looking for attendance. He is looking for engagement. 

Before your next worship service, pause and ask yourself: "Is my heart actually here?"  

If it is not, confess that honestly to God.  

Repentance is always the first step toward real worship.

Prayer:

Lord, search my heart. Where I have been going through the motions, forgive me. Draw me close, not just with my words, but with everything I am. Amen.
