Hard Hearts, Open Eyes

"For they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened.”
Mark 6:52

They had just watched Jesus feed five thousand people with five loaves and two fish. Now He had walked on water.  

And they were still astonished.  

Not in worship, but in bewilderment. 

Mark's commentary here is striking. The disciples missed the miracle of the loaves, and so they were unprepared to understand the miracle of the water.  

A hard heart is not always a rebellious heart. Sometimes it is simply a distracted one.  

A heart that has stopped connecting the dots between what God has already done and what He is doing right now. 

God's past faithfulness is not just history. It is evidence.  

Every miracle you have already lived through is meant to prepare you to trust Him in the next one.  

When we forget what God has done, we shrink Him in our minds. We start treating Him as a good teacher or a helpful idea rather than the sovereign Lord of the universe who walks on water. 

Mark 8:17 records Jesus asking the disciples the same question later: "Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart?"  

The invitation was then, and it is now: keep learning, keep remembering, and keep your heart soft. 

Take five minutes today to write down three specific ways God has come through for you in the past.  

Let those moments soften your heart toward whatever He is asking you to trust Him with today. 

Prayer:

Father, forgive me when I forget what You have already done. Soften my heart. Open my eyes. Help me connect the miracles of yesterday to the faith I need for today. I trust You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
