Generational Faithfulness

"Thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.”
Mark 7:13 

What you model, they will inherit.  

That is not a warning meant to frighten you. It is a call to take faithfulness seriously. 

Jesus indicted the Pharisees for something that extended far beyond their own hearts.  

They were teaching others, including the next generation, to invalidate God's Word. Their spiritual negligence had a multiplying effect.  

We tend to think of our choices as personal, but very few of them are.  

The patterns we establish, the priorities we model, and the habits we normalize all get handed down. 

Generational poverty gets attention. Generational idolatry rarely does.  

But the stakes are just as high.  

When parents consistently place anything above God's Word and God's people, they are not just shaping schedules.  

They are shaping souls. 

The Pharisees encouraged children to redirect their resources away from family obligations in the name of religion.  

Today, it is easy to redirect a child's Sundays away from the gathering of believers in the name of sports, recreation, or rest.  

The mechanism is different. The result is the same: a generation learning that God's Word is negotiable. 

What is one concrete choice you can make this week to model faithfulness to God's Word for someone younger than you?  

Make that choice, and make it on purpose.

Prayer:

Lord, help me live in a way that points the next generation toward You, not away from You. Let my habits and priorities reflect that Your Word is not optional in my home. May faithfulness be what I hand down. Amen.
