Eyes Open, Heart Closed

"Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?”
Mark 8:18

The disciples had a remarkable track record of missing the point.

They had witnessed feeding miracles for thousands, watched Jesus walk on water, and seen the dead come back to life. And now, in the boat, they were arguing about who forgot to pack lunch.

Jesus did not hide His frustration. "Do you not yet see? Do you not yet understand?"

The disciples knew the facts.

They could rattle off the correct answers when He quizzed them.

Twelve baskets. Seven baskets.

But they completely missed the significance.

They enjoyed the provision and ignored the Provider.

This is not just a first-century disciple problem.

How many answered prayers have you forgotten? How many times did God show up in a crisis and you moved on without so much as a thank you?

Spiritual amnesia is real, and it is dangerous. When we forget what God has done, we start living as if He has not done anything, which is exactly when anxiety, unbelief, and self-reliance creep back in.

The disciples' failure was not ignorance. It was ingratitude.

God is not asking you to figure everything out. He is asking you to remember.

Take five minutes today to write down three specific times God provided for you, protected you, or answered a prayer.

Spend a moment thanking Him for each one.

Prayer:

Lord, I confess how quickly I forget Your faithfulness. Open the eyes of my heart to see what You have already done, and let that remembrance fuel my trust in what You are doing now. Amen.
