Broken Chains

"And his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly."
Mark 7:35 

The word translated "impediment" is a Greek word that means chain or bond, the kind used to restrain a prisoner.  

This man's inability to speak was not just a physical condition. It was a chain.  

And in a single moment, Jesus snapped it. 

That is what the gospel does. Paul puts it plainly in Romans 8:1, "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."  

Whatever has had you bound, whatever shame, habit, or fear has functioned like chains in your life, Jesus came to break it.  

The same power that opened the ears of a deaf man in Decapolis is available to you right now. 

But here is what we cannot miss: the man did not break his own chains. He could not.  

It required Someone outside of himself.  

That is the point of the cross. You cannot free yourself from sin.  

Jesus came because you needed rescue, not just advice. 

Write down one area of your life where you have been trying to break free on your own.  

Surrender it specifically to Jesus in prayer today, and reach out to a trusted friend or pastor who can walk with you toward freedom. 

Prayer:

Jesus, I confess that I have tried to break my own chains in my own strength, and I keep failing. Today I surrender what I cannot fix to You. You are the only One with the authority to set me free. Thank You for the cross. In Your name, Amen.
