The Courage To obey

"And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it."
Mark 7:36 

This one cuts both ways. The crowd disobeyed Jesus because they were overwhelmed with what they had witnessed.  

They could not stay quiet.  

But the text is honest: disobedience is disobedience, even when the motive seems understandable. 

Mark does not gloss over this. The same people who watched a miraculous healing walked away ignoring a direct command from Jesus.  

And before we shake our heads at them, we need to ask ourselves: where are we doing the same thing?  

We read clear commands in Scripture, commands about forgiveness, generosity, honesty, and purity, and we find reasons to walk around them. 

The real question is not why they disobeyed.  

The real question is why we do.  

Proverbs 3:5–6 calls us to “trust in the Lord with all our heart and to stop leaning on our own understanding.” 

Disobedience, at its root, is always a trust problem. We think we know better. 

Identify one area of your life right now where you are knowingly ignoring what God has asked of you.  

Confess it to Him today. Not in vague terms, but specifically.  

Then take one concrete step toward obedience. 

Prayer:

Lord, forgive me for the ways I have disobeyed Your clear commands while telling myself I had good reasons. I do not want to walk around You. Grow my trust in You so that obedience becomes my first response, not my last resort. In Jesus' name, Amen.
