Authority Over Everything

"So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Mark 2:28

With these words, Jesus made the most audacious claim imaginable. To call Himself "Lord of the Sabbath" was to claim equality with God Himself. The Sabbath was God's institution, established at creation and commanded in the Ten Commandments.

Only God had authority over the Sabbath.

Jesus was declaring that He had the right to define how God's people should live because He is God.

The disciples were learning that their Rabbi was far more than a teacher. He was the Creator walking among His creation.

This truth changes everything about how we approach Jesus.

He's not just a good moral teacher or an inspiring example.

He's not just someone whose advice we can take or leave.

He is Lord, which means He has the right to rule over every area of our lives.

When we truly understand Jesus' lordship, it brings both comfort and challenge.

Comfort because we know that the One who rules our lives loves us perfectly.

Challenge because it means surrendering control of areas we'd rather keep to ourselves.

Identify one area of your life where you've been resisting Jesus' lordship. Surrender that area to Him today through prayer and concrete action.

Prayer:

Jesus, I acknowledge that You are Lord over every area of my life. Forgive me for the times I've treated You like a consultant instead of my King. Help me to surrender completely to Your loving authority. I trust that Your plans for me are good, even when I don't understand them. Rule and reign in my heart completely. Amen.
