"O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!"
Mark 9:19
The disciples had done this before. Jesus gave them authority over demons in chapter six, and it worked.
So when the father brought his suffering son, they stepped forward with confidence.
And nothing happened.
Here is the problem: they were operating on yesterday's power.
They assumed that because God had worked through them once, the ability was now theirs to keep.
But spiritual power does not work that way. It never has.
The moment they stopped depending on God and started depending on their experience, the well ran dry.
We do the same thing. We lean on an old quiet time, a past mission trip, or a season when our faith felt strong, and we assume that momentum will carry us.
It will not.
God is the source, not our history with Him. When we stop staying near Him, we stop drawing from Him.
A boat anchor does not hold the ship when the chain is severed. The connection is everything.
Ask yourself honestly: is there an area of your life where you are running on spiritual momentum from the past instead of fresh dependence on God today?
Bring that area to Him in prayer right now.
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for the times I have trusted my experience more than I have trusted You. I cannot do this without You. Today, I choose to come back to the source. Fill me with Your Spirit and let Your power, not mine, be what moves through my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
