When Position Meets Purpose
“And one of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came, and upon seeing Him, fell at His feet and pleaded with Him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.’ And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.”
Mark 5:22–24
Jairus had something to lose. Status. Respect. Approval.
But when his daughter was dying, none of that mattered more than getting to Jesus.
Jairus was not an outsider. He was a synagogue official.
A respected man. A public man. The kind of man people watched.
And yet he fell at Jesus’ feet.
Jairus risked his reputation by coming to the One many religious leaders opposed. He humbled himself in front of the crowd and pleaded for help.
His position could not save his daughter. Only Jesus could.
This is bold faith. It puts pride aside. It stops protecting image.
It values Christ more than public opinion.
Jairus shows us that real faith is not always quiet or safe.
Sometimes it costs you status. Sometimes it costs you approval. Sometimes it means looking weak in the eyes of others so you can cling to the strength of Jesus.
And that is never a bad trade.
What is your reputation keeping you from doing?
What does pride keep you from admitting?
Where is fear of people making you hold back?
Bring it to Jesus.
Follow Him openly. Trust Him fully.
If obedience costs you applause, give it up. If faith costs you comfort, let it go.
Jesus is worth more than the approval you are trying to keep.
Prayer:
Lord, give us the courage of Jairus. Help us lay down our pride, our image, and our need for approval. Teach us to follow You boldly, even when it costs us something. Make our faith strong, humble, and public. You are worth it all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
