When Hope Rises from the Grave
“While He was still speaking, people came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, ‘Your daughter has died; why bother the Teacher further?’ But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, ‘Do not be afraid, only believe.’”
Mark 5:35–36
The room had already decided the story was over. Jesus had not.
What looked final to everyone else was still fully under His authority.
Jairus heard the words no parent wants to hear: “Your daughter has died.”
The mourners were there. The grief was loud. The conclusion seemed settled.
Then Jesus walked in.
He was not shaken by the tears, the noise, or the laughter of those who mocked Him.
Where others saw a closed door, Jesus saw a moment for glory.
He took the girl by the hand and spoke a command. Immediately, she got up and walked.
That is the power of Christ.
Death is not lord. Jesus is. The grave does not get the last word. He does.
This miracle was more than a mercy for one family. It pointed forward to something greater.
Jesus would one day face death Himself, enter the grave, and rise in victory.
What He did in Jairus’s house was a sign of who He is: the One who brings life where none seems possible.
When Jesus speaks, death must yield.
What in your life feels finished? What have you already buried in your mind?
Bring it to Jesus.
Do not let fear or appearances decide what is possible. Trust the One who rules over death itself.
If Christ defeated the grave, He is not limited by the thing in front of you now.
Hope is never foolish when it is placed in Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that You have authority over death and power over every impossible thing. Strengthen our faith when life feels final. Help us trust Your word more than what we see. Thank You for Your victory over the grave and for the hope we have in You. In Your name, Amen.
