The Impossible Command

"When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, 'This place is desolate and it is already quite late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.' But He answered them, 'You give them something to eat!’"
Mark 6:35–37  

Sometimes God asks us to do things that seem completely unreasonable. The disciples faced thousands of hungry people with empty pockets and no plan. Sound familiar? 

Jesus created this crisis on purpose. He led them to a desolate place, taught until dinnertime, then gave an impossible command: "You feed them."  

The disciples' response was pure sarcasm: "Should we spend 200 denarii on bread?" That's almost a year's wages. 

Jesus forces us to choose between being theological or practical. When your theology collides with your problem, which wins?  

The disciples saw the impossibility. Jesus saw the opportunity.  

He wasn't testing their ability to solve the problem. He was teaching them to trust the Problem Solver. 

Moses faced the same frustration in the wilderness. Millions of people, no food, and God saying "figure it out." Both Moses and the disciples had to learn that some situations are beyond human capability by design.  

God creates impossible circumstances to teach us possible faith. 

What impossible situation is God using to teach you to trust Him? Stop trying to figure out how and start trusting the One who knows how. Acknowledge your weakness and watch Him show His strength. 

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that I often try to solve problems that are too big for me. Forgive me for trusting my own understanding more than Your power. When You give me impossible commands, help me remember that You are the God of the impossible. I trust You even when I can't see how. In Jesus' name, Amen.
