THE GOSPEL BEGINS
“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”
Mark 1:1
Mark opens his Gospel with a declaration, not a suggestion.
This is the beginning of the gospel. And this gospel is about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
When he says “the beginning,” he’s intentionally echoing Genesis 1:1. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. That was the beginning of creation. This is the beginning of redemption.
Mark wants you to see that what God did in creation, He is now doing in salvation. Just as He spoke the world into existence, He has now acted in history through His Son.
This isn’t advice. It isn’t moral instruction. It isn’t spiritual improvement.
It’s Good News.
The word “gospel” means a proclamation — an announcement from God. And the announcement is clear: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
That forces a question.
Who is Jesus to you?
Not in theory. Not in general belief. Personally.
If He is truly the Son of God, then your life cannot remain unchanged. The gospel demands more than admiration. It calls for surrender.
Mark himself was once a deserter in ministry. By human standards, he could have been written off. But God restored him and used him to record this powerful account of Jesus. That’s grace. That’s redemption.
And the same gospel that changed Mark is still changing people today.
Today, don’t treat the gospel casually. Ask yourself honestly: Have I responded to Jesus as the Son of God?
If not, respond. Trust Him. Follow Him.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the good news of Jesus. Open my eyes to see Him clearly and give me the courage to respond fully. I don’t want to stay neutral. Amen.
