The Danger Of Excitement

“Simon and his companions searched for Him; they found Him, and said to Him, ‘Everyone is looking for You.’”
Mark 1:36-37

Jesus slips away to pray in the dark, but His disciples do not let Him rest. Simon and the others track Him down.

The original language describes a highly intense pursuit. They hunt for Him. When they finally find Jesus, they eagerly announce that the whole crowd is looking for Him.

The disciples think Jesus wants a massive audience. They see the growing excitement and assume it equals success. The people in town are thrilled to be near a powerful miracle worker.

But enthusiasm is never to be confused with true faith.

The crowd simply wants a spectacle. They want their temporary problems solved.

We often make the exact same mistake.

We get excited about what Jesus can do for us. We chase after the blessings, the quick fixes, and the emotional highs.

However, true faith goes much deeper than temporary excitement.

True faith follows Jesus even when the miracles stop and the loud crowd walks away.

Examine your own heart today. Are you simply an enthusiastic fan of Jesus, or are you a faithful follower? Seek Him for who He is, not just for the relief He brings.

Prayer:

Lord, search my heart and help me to love You for who You are. Strip away shallow excitement and replace it with steadfast faith. Teach me to follow You sincerely, no matter what comes. Thank You for Your patience and grace. Amen.
