He Is Greater
“After me One is coming who is mightier than I…”
Mark 1:7
John the Baptist had influence. Crowds followed him. Leaders listened to him. His ministry was powerful.
And yet he said he wasn’t even worthy to untie Jesus’ sandals.
In that culture, untying sandals was the lowest servant’s task. John was saying, “Compared to Him, I am nothing.”
That wasn’t insecurity. It was clarity.
John understood something we often forget: Jesus is greater than we imagine.
Greater than your achievements.
Greater than your failures.
Greater than your plans.
Greater than your fears.
When you truly see who Jesus is, pride loses its grip.
John’s entire ministry pointed away from himself and toward Christ. He wasn’t building his own name. He was preparing the way for another.
Today, consider your own heart.
Are you trying to build your reputation? Protect your status? Maintain control?
Or are you pointing people to Jesus?
True greatness in God’s kingdom isn’t found in being noticed. It’s found in knowing Christ and making Him known.
Today, decrease so that He may increase.
Prayer:
Jesus, help me see Your greatness clearly. Guard me from pride and self-promotion. I want my life to point to You. Amen.
