Half A Gospel Is No Gospel At All

"And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.”
Mark 8:31 

Peter had the right answer, but the wrong idea.  

He believed Jesus was the Messiah, but he wanted a Messiah who would conquer enemies, restore Israel, and put his people on top.  

He wanted Jesus without the cross. 

Sound familiar? 

Jesus immediately corrected the incomplete picture.  

The Son of Man must suffer. Must be rejected. Must be killed. And after three days, rise again.  

This was not a detour from God's plan. It was the plan.  

Every word was deliberate. Every step was purposed.  

Jesus was not walking into a trap. He was walking into the mission. 

But notice what Peter seemed to skip over: "after three days rise again."  

The resurrection was always part of the announcement. You cannot preach a Jesus who only suffers and call it the whole gospel.  

Suffering without resurrection is tragedy. The cross without the empty tomb is defeat.  

But together? Together they are the greatest victory in history. 

Many people today still want half a gospel.  

They want a Jesus who blesses their plans, fixes their problems, and approves of their choices.  

But the real Jesus calls us to follow a path that includes hardship and leads to glory.  

That is not a discouraging message. That is the most liberating truth you will ever hear. 

Today, ask yourself where you have been editing Jesus to fit what you want. What part of His plan have you been quietly pushing back on?  

Surrender that area to Him today.

Lord, forgive me for wanting a version of You that serves my comfort. Your plan is better than mine, and Your path leads to life. Help me trust You fully, even when the road is hard. In Jesus' name, Amen.
