Why We Do Not Pray More

"This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer."
Mark 9:29

After everything, the disciples pulled Jesus aside and asked the obvious question: why could we not drive it out?

His answer was simple and devastating.

Prayer. They had not prayed.

They had attempted something spiritual without actually depending on God to do it.

Prayer is not a ritual. It is not a warm-up before we do the real work.

Prayer is the work.

It is how we access the power of God.

When we skip it, we are not just missing a step; we are announcing that we think we can handle it without Him.

So why do we not pray more?

Usually one of three reasons: we do not really believe God will do anything about it, we are proud enough to think we can handle it ourselves, or we are embarrassed about what someone else might think if they see us pray.

Every one of those reasons is a faith problem in disguise.

And Jesus is calling us back to the place where faith actually shows itself: on our knees, bringing what we cannot fix to the One who can.

Set a timer for five minutes today and do nothing but pray. No agenda, no list of requests.

Just talk to God about what is actually on your heart.

Prayer:

Father, make me a person of prayer. Not because it looks good, but because I genuinely believe You are listening and You are able. Strip away my pride, my doubt, and my embarrassment. Teach me to come to You first, not last. In Jesus' name, Amen.
