"The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”
Mark 9:31
Jesus was preparing His disciples for the most important event in history. And they were not paying attention.
Jesus pulled His disciples aside, away from the crowds, and gave them focused, intentional teaching. He was counting down the days to the cross, and He needed them ready.
So He told them plainly: He would be betrayed, killed, and raised.
This was not a mystery. It was a mission.
Yet they did not understand, and they were too afraid to ask.
They heard the words but could not receive them because the words required something they were not yet willing to give: surrender.
That is not so different from us. God speaks clearly through His Word, and we hear it. But sometimes we go quiet because we already sense that obedience is going to cost us something.
Think about a time you already knew what God was asking of you, but you stayed silent, hoping the moment would pass.
The disciples did the same thing. They were not confused. They were uncomfortable.
Read Mark 9:30–32 slowly today. Ask God to reveal one area where you have heard His Word but stayed quiet out of fear or self-interest.
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for the moments I stay silent when You speak. Give me the courage to receive Your Word fully, even when it requires something of me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
