The Mystery Of The Kingdom

“And He was saying, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear.’ As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables. And He was saying to them, ‘To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables, so that while seeing, they may see and not perceive, and while hearing, they may hear and not understand, otherwise they might return and be forgiven.’”
- Mark 4:9–12

Jesus did not use parables just to make truth easier to remember. He also used them to expose the heart.

The same story that drew one person closer caused another to walk away unchanged.

That is the mystery of the kingdom. God’s truth is not grasped by curiosity alone, cleverness, or religious habit. It is received by hearts that are humble and ready to listen.

Jesus says, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” In other words, hearing is more than sound reaching your ears.

True hearing leads to surrender.

This passage is a warning. You can sit near the truth and still miss it. You can hear the words of Jesus and never bow to His authority.

The crowd heard the parables, but the disciples stayed close enough to ask what they meant.

That is often the dividing line. Some hear and move on. Others lean in, ask, listen, and follow.

The kingdom of God is still revealed that way. Jesus makes Himself known to those who come to Him with faith. He resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.

If you want to grow in grace and truth, do not just admire the teaching of Christ.

Come near. Open God’s Word. Ask Him for understanding. Walk in what He shows you.

The question is simple: are you only hearing, or are you truly listening?

Prayer:

Lord, give me ears to hear Your truth and a heart ready to obey. Keep me from hardness, pride, and empty religion. Draw me near to Jesus, and help me walk in the light You reveal. Amen.
